What's in it for you

We know the hassle of dealing with overpromising CDMOs. You can count on us to be honest and transparent – the Nordic way. If something’s not doable or needs to be adapted, we’ll let you know right away.

FAQ

FAQ

Still have questions? We’re here to help.

I am interested in your services. What's the process?

Welcome! We recommend that you fill in our compatibility form. This will help us determine whether our pilot is a good fit, and share a first price estimate. You are also very welcome to contact us directly.

After a first conversation with our commercial team (under NDA), we’ll have all the information we need to share a more precise quote with you. If that’s all good, we will connect you with our pilot colleagues. They will ensure that your project runs smoothly, from the planning phase, execution, all the way to the reporting and next-steps upscaling recommendations.

How do you handle customers' confidentiality and IP concerns?

We work after the principle of “freedom to operate” – our requirement is that we can improve our skills and ability to provide our services. As long as your own strains are used in the fermentation, we guarantee your ownership over the following :

Customers

Strain construct

Data from experiment

IP based on experiment

Tech transfer

under confidentiality

21st.BIO retains the right to use anonymized process data for internal learning and modelling.

Can you handle any production strain?

We only work with Biosafety Level 1 (BSL-1) organisms, and will avoid anaerobic strains as well as spore formers.

I am not based in Denmark. How will it work logistically?

Good news: our pilot plant is strategically located in our Copenhagen HQ, a 30-minute drive from the airport.

You are very welcome to visit us onsite during your project run. Our dedicated customer suite is well equipped, with everything from tech hardware to great coffee and Danish pastries. When possible, we will give you the opportunity to shadow us as we operate in the pilot. We aim for a smooth transfer of your process to your next stop.

If you prefer to do it remotely: that’s no problem. Your fermentation data is available online in real time, and we can engage in live video stream from the pilot plant. Follow the process wherever you are.

We can package your samples and ship via different logistics companies upon request.

What are your Upstream Processing (USP) and Downstream Processing (DSP) capabilities?

Our pilot plant is equipped with the following:

  • Mixer
  • UHT
  • Feed tanks, x4
  • Fermenters, 2x 30L
  • Fermenters, 2x 300L
  • Fermenters, 2x 1200L
  • Mobile tanks, x3
  • CIP, x2
  • Filtration unit for 30L
  • Filtration units, x2
  • Kill plant

Need something else that’s not listed here? No worries, we can rent further DSP equipment on demand from leading suppliers.

Note: Our gas input is air. The gas cannot be replaced by other inputs.

What's your pricing model?

All bioproduction projects are different, and we’ll tailor our offer to your specific needs. We consider parameters such as fermenter volumes, process time, material handling, DSP equipment, material handling and special support to develop a price quote. To help us understand your need, we kindly ask you to prepare the simple questionnaire that we have prepared or jump on a call with us. Our services packages can also include extra options such as strain optimization, upscaling support or regulatory consulting. We have been there ourselves and know what is required.

What are your quality certifications?

The pilot plant is in the process of being certified according to the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration. On the longer term, 21st.BIO is working to be FSSC 22000 certified.

Do you offer any extra services, beyond fermentation?

21st.BIO is an industrial biotech upscaling partner. We have our own strain engineering programs where we use our library of industrially proven strains to develop customer specific molecules. We offer a range of services that can help you on your upscaling journey including strain optimization, process improvements, upscaling support, regulatory consultancy and biomanufacturing consulting – always by people who have firsthand experience. Of course under full confidentiality.
