Our team was proud to represent 21st.BIO at the Biosolutions high-level Summit 2023, taking place in Copenhagen.
For the first time ever, ministers, politicians, investors and biotechnology companies were gathered to discuss how Denmark can leverage its global leadership in biosolutions, building on decades of technology development and industrial production by giants like Novozymes, Chr. Hansen, Novo Nordisk, and Carlsberg.
At 21st.BIO, we took the chance to present samples of our milk protein (beta-lactoglobulin), produced with our world-leading precision fermentation technology, as well as our vision around the need for building production capacity in Denmark, Europe and beyond.
Our key messages were:
– 21st.BIO’s production technology for milk protein and materials is ready for industrial production now – and the scaling of our technology for commercial production is happening as we speak.
– There is a need for favorable solutions around funding and building protein factories in Denmark and EU – otherwise the private capital will be allocated in other parts of the world.
– There is a need to financially support production of protein in a way that also covers those proteins that are produced in large tanks.
– Approval time and complexity for novel foods and materials need to be reduced drastically in Europe to leverage commercially on the advantages that we have on precision fermentation technology.
One tiny protein at a time, one pilot factory and one full scale protein factory at a time, precision fermentation will help feed and transform the world, and pave the way for a more sustainable future.
